Yesterday I drove through the night to sleep in my own bed again. Some things are worth pulling in the driveway at 4:30 in the morning. I spent the last couple of days in eastern Tennessee with some friends I met on the road. It was the picture of fall.

The two weeks prior to my fall retreat were great fun, thanks to lots of generous house concert hosts, musician friends, audiences, and my touring partners Judd & Maggie. Please check out their music. I know you'll love it.

I want to share a few fruits of the trip with you. First, a great article about house concerts by my new friend Matt Cuthbert at AL.com. He attended my Birmingham house concert earlier this month and took a few videos, a few photos, and some copious notes. Read the article here.

Also, my new friend Jeffrey Liles filmed Judd, Maggie, and me performing some of our songs on the construction site of the Kessler Theater in Dallas, TX. The theater will open in the coming months, but in the meantime the management has filmed multiple artists from the region and beyond to help promote this cool new music venue in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. I've had a great year of touring around the country, and I'm ready to wrap up 2009 with a month-long hiatus from the road during December, during which I plan to finish writing my next record. Unfortunately, I have not been able to land many November shows, which brings us to this message.

In short, I need your help getting up to Charlottesville, VA, by Monday, Nov 23. How can you help, you ask? Here are some ideas:

1) Host a house concert. These are special evenings of music and community. Because of the short notice, I'm offering greatly discounted rates. Let me know if you're interested.

2) Suggest a venue in your area. Know a great place I should play? Let me know about it, and I'll see what I can do.

3) Buy my music online. If I'm unable to book a show in your area, you can increase my chances of finding a gig there next time by purchasing some of my music online. Buying my music not only puts gas in my car and food in my belly, but if you get it as a gift for a friend, it can win me some more fans in your region.

About a year ago I started talking with Luke from Milieu Artists Cooperative, an organization interested in helping me with my music career. Luke mentioned that he was working with a few other artists, including a Nashville-based duo called Judd & Maggie. I listened to their music, and immediately smiled and bobbed my head, doing my little white guy dance. This brother/sister group writes killer pop music with strong lyrics, harmonies, and melodies.

Fast forward one year and I'm in Nashville hanging out at Judd & Maggie's house in the east end of town, rehearsing songs for our upcoming tour. I'm excited as we get ready to leave tomorrow for 10 days across the central-southern U.S. (in other words, Texas). Our music is pretty different, and this is what has me excited. I'm playing electric guitar on many of J&M's tunes, and this is stretching me as a musician. They in turn are singing and playing on my songs, adding their own flavor to my music.

I look forward to seeing how we will influence and learn from each other on this trip, and I hope you will come out to see us if we come to your area.
